Weldon Springs Sunset
Photo for the day!
I watched the sun set tonight at Busch Wildlife in Weldon Springs. It is 6,950 acres of wildlife, fishing (don't eat them, please), hunting (don't eat them either, please), photography and a lot of other interesting things. That's today. In the 1940s this area was a TNT and DNT explosives production site for the Army. In fact, along the roads between a couple of dozen lake sites are interspersed exactly 100 aging and junk-filled explosives storage bunkers still remaining from the early years. You may remember the north side of this property from my previous posts and photos. That was the uranium processing site for the Manhattan Project and, from 1958 to 1967, a radioactive material dumping ground. Today, except for the rusting doors set in crumbling concrete bunkers, you would never realize the grim history of the site. Now as you drive around on graveled country roads, you can watch people fish in the twenty-odd lakes, smile with families having picnics on blankets with their heads thrown back in laughter, and listen to the twitter of the birds above the breeze in the trees and, especially, experience a beautiful sunset at the end of a warm spring day. Just beautiful. I hope you enjoy!
By the way, this was taken with my Samsung S8+ phone and processed in Photoshop and Lightroom on my laptop.
