Smoky Glory
No, this photo is not a black and white image but it does show the beauty of the higher elevations of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
Most people tend to hang around the parking lot and gift shop when visiting the highest point in the Smoky Mountains, Clingman's Dome. At 6,600 feet above sea level the view of the surrounding mountains is breathtaking, to say the least. While the parking lot is a favorite place for sunrise photos, the peak offers excellent views anytime. This photo was taken on top of the observation tower which quite the hike up a steep, paved walkway. There are benches placed strategically along the way for those who need to catch their breath, which makes this destination well worth the effort. A word to the wise - the wind is always blowing and the temperature can be quite cool. Plan accordingly!
