Country Sunrise
What is an image, really? It is just a picture showing a time, a place, maybe an object? Is an image a way to remember last Christmas, a family vacation to Cancun, a favorite pet?
Maybe, but I think an image, a successful image, is much, much more. I believe a successful image is captures a moment in time in it's entirety. True, you cannot feel the slight breeze in this image or the earthy smell of the fields with the dew clinging to the grass. But, I believe I can feel the cool misty fog and squint at the brightness of the sun. It makes me feel just a bit lonely. In fact, this is what I call a "lonely" shot, one of my favorite feelings to bring out in an image. I guess that is what I consider a successful image. Not only does it convey the subject and all the proper ingredients of composition, color, and perspective but it conveys a feeling, a sense of place and draws the viewer into your experience. To be able to bring so many people into that single moment of time with you to experience the emotion, the story, the significance of what you felt as you clicked the shutter is an incredible thing!
