Fast Friends
As a photographer, I have seen my fair share of strange things. This is my latest find. Heaven only knows how long this fire hydrant has been here but I do know that the quarry next to this was shut down from its original purpose, which was for building material, in the years after WW2. The next era of its existence was not so mundane. These two friends are located in the Weldon Springs Superfund area. Years ago there was a lot of nuclear and chemical waste dumped in the old quarry. Most of the waste was dumped into the water to be forgotten by man but not the environment. You can see that the ground has subsided over the years, probably due to the draining and remediation of the quarry next to it in the early 2,000's. The base of the fire hydrant is a good eighteen inches above the ground. (Originally, the base of the hydrant sat on grade.) The title for this one is still up in the air but how about, "Best Friends" or "You Think?".
